Introducing Optimisey Search — the new, free Chrome extension that simplifies your search results.
Are you one of the many (many!) people that dislikes Google’s new ‘AI Overviews’ that summarise (plagiarise?) information from across the web — often with hilarious/awful results?
Watch how Optimisey Search tidies all that up in this short video:
Optimisey Search lets you toggle the new ‘Web’ search filter in Google search results pages (SERPs) at the tap or click of a button.
Strip out all the clutter in the SERPs:
- Answer boxes
- Images
- Knowledge Graphs
- People Also Asked
- Product listings
And much more (even some of the ads!). Look at this example on a search for the single word “Steelers”:
Before (with all the ‘features’ highlighted):

After (just the ten, top ranking websites… nothing else):

How to install Optimisey Search
Installing the Optimisey Search Chrome extension is super easy:
- Open your Chrome browser
- Go to the Optimisey Search Chrome extension on the Chrome Store
- Click ‘Add to Chrome’ (top right)

- In the confirmation pop-up choose ‘Add extension’

You need to confirm as the extension will “change your data on all google.com sites” — because that’s how it works! Don’t worry, the extension cannot see your searches or any of your data.
Now you want to ‘Pin’ the extension, so it’s always available to tidy up your search results at a tap:
- Choose ‘Extensions’ in the Chrome menu (top right, looks like a little puzzle piece)
- Scroll down to Optimisey Search and tap the pin icon next to it (it should turn blue)

- Now you can clean up your Google Search results at the tap of a button! Or toggle them back with another tap!
How to use Optimisey Search
The Optimisey Search Chrome extension is designed to be really simple to use.
- Download and install the Optimisey Search Chrome extension (obviously)
- Go to Google.com (the current version only works on google.com — let me know if you want other Google TLDs added?)
- Do a search on Google, as usual
- On the search results page (SERP) hit the ‘Optimisey Search’ icon in the toolbar
- Bingo! Instantly tidied, clean uncluttered search results (without an AI Overview in sight!)
Turn Off AI Overviews
It’s safe to say Google’s new AI Overviews have not been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, especially as it often seems to ‘halucinate’ answers (in bizarre ways) or is just plain wrong:
This is what happens when you present the “answer” from deep on a Quora page as if it’s a fact pic.twitter.com/NksQlilaO9

Jesus Christ Google… get rid of this feature… pic.twitter.com/TYhclYnhhp

So… yeah. Lots of people not really thrilled with the new feature (apologies for some of the more colourful language… but they really don’t like it).
Ironically, Google searches for:“How to turn off AI overview” or similar are surging.
If you’re one of those people: Yes, Optimisey Search will allow you toggle the AI Overview on or off at the tap of a button.
I’m already working on version 2 of the extension, so if you have any feedback, comments or suggestions they’d be very welcome.
Please send any feedback, comments, requests or suggestions to: contact@optimisey.com.
Or if you just loved the extension and want to ‘Buy Me a Coffee’ that’d be really great too!
Meanwhile, please help spread the word! Tell your friends/colleagues/neighbours/family about Optimisey Search and how they can tidy up their search results with a tap.
Looking for something more permanent? If you don’t want/need the convenience of turning the AI Overviews and added search features on and off with a tap — you can alter your settings more permanently. Tonya Ugnich’s tenbluelinks.org has you covered on the ‘how to’.
